Insurance Law
Course Description
This course comprises of the basic concepts of law that are required to form the contract. It captures the various concepts associated with the performance of a contract. Combined with the law of torts it becomes easy to understand the concepts associated with the law of contract. At the first level there are general principles which form the basic structure of the law of contract. The second level comprises of the special principles of contract. The emphasis will be on case law analysis. Another area of debate will be the recognition of the right of third parties in a contract. The divergence between the traditional and the modern notions of the law of contract will thus be of prime concern.
Course Objectives
- To understand the law of torts and contract in the business environment
- To analyze the concepts associated with the classical contract law in order to evaluate their relevance to the insurance businesses
- To analysis the various doctrines in order to determine their relevance
- To understand the regulatory framework of the insurance industry and business in Uganda.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion, participants will be able to;
- Develop knowledge and understanding of commercial contracts.
- Gain an overview of the regulatory regime to achieve contract certainty.
- Gain an understanding of the legal interpretation of various elements and terminologies in insurance contracts.
- Build awareness of the scope of coverage and limits of insurance contracts.
