Course Description

This course provides an insight into the principal concepts and mechanism of hull insurance. This program will also discuss cases of handling, marine risks, the marine insurance market, the duties of brokers and agents and their responsibilities in hull/marine insurance. This course will review the forms and clauses used to insure cargo transported by sea. Students will study the insuring agreements, conditions, exclusions, limitations and special features of the forms. Underwriting and claims principles and practices will be discussed.

Course Objectives

  1. To understand the principles, concepts, and underline contract applied in the marine insurance market.
  2.  To identify the technical and legal principal of marine and aviation insurance.
  3.  To appreciate the application of the doctrine of proximate cause to marine insurance.
  4. To understand the principle and different clauses of aviation insurance

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course students will be able:

  1. To assess the principal factors involved in the assessment of marine cargo risks according to different business activities;
  2. To interpret and perform tasks on insurance matters independently and according to requirements of insured / insurer under different factors of consideration
  3. To apply basic concepts of marine hull risks and basic insurance coverage related to insurance in hull, aviation and space scenarios.
  4. to underwrite the aviation polices in line with the clauses
